Things to Know

What’s Involved:

A custom bike from a small shop is a labour intensive endeavour. Our standards are high and frame quality and finish quality are very important to us. A custom bike takes between 60 - 100hrs of shop time.

Warranties

Frame warranties are 10 years for any manufacturing defects, and 2 years if the frame design is experimental. Beyond that, we strive to get you back riding as soon as possible. That means a simple frame repair or touch up paint billed at 50% of our usual shop rate plus materials.

Lead Times

Lead times are usually between 6 to 12 months. The best time to order is in the fall as everybody starts thinking about biking in April and the summer is full of orders. A fall order means there is more time to order parts, tune design, and be set to build in the spring. Small jobs or frame modifications have some flexibility to fit in between builds.

Usual Cost

In general, a full custom bike build starts at $7,000 CAD and can be as high as $12,000 depending on complexity of paint work, frame accessories and level of components. For complete builds, we encourage you to select components that you won’t need to upgrade anytime soon. We prefer to send out the bicycle from our Six Mile shop in its top form.

Billing

After the initial consult, there is a $750 deposit required to hold your spot and get the project rolling. 4-6 weeks later there is a components invoice for the total of the bicycle components for the project. The remainder of the estimate will be due upon pickup or delivery.

Back and Forth

Although there is an initial consultation, there are often a few back and forth emails to iron out details that may arrive during frame construction. None of these calls add to the cost of the bike, and in general they work to develop a relationship together. Often you get some pictures of your frame in process, we like to think of them as ultrasound photos of you new “baby”.
